The Indiana Pacers are heading to the Eastern Conference Semifinals for the first time in over a decade, and they have Tyrese Haliburton to thank.
In a dramatic Game 5 finish that will be remembered for years, Haliburton delivered a heroic performance, scoring the game-winning layup with just 1.1 seconds left in overtime to cap off a stunning 119-118 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. The Pacers closed the series 4-1, officially eliminating a Bucks team once viewed as a title contender.
Down by seven points with only 40 seconds remaining in the extra period, the Pacers looked destined for a Game 6. But Haliburton sparked an improbable 8-0 run, combining calm playmaking with aggressive shot-making. His clutch floater silenced the Bucks and ignited a wild celebration in Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
“This moment means everything,” Haliburton said postgame. “We’ve been doubted all year, but we believe in each other. This is just the beginning.”
Milwaukee, on the other hand, leaves the postseason in shock. Giannis Antetokounmpo turned in a monstrous 30-point, 20-rebound, 13-assist triple-double, and Gary Trent Jr. led the team with 33 points. But poor decision-making down the stretch and crucial turnovers doomed the Bucks’ chances.
The game also had drama off the court. Giannis exchanged heated words with Haliburton’s father after the final buzzer. While both parties later brushed off the altercation, the tension highlighted the emotional weight of the game.
For Milwaukee, the loss marks their third straight first-round exit, and it could prompt serious offseason reflection. Antetokounmpo has only one year left on his contract, raising speculation about his future in Wisconsin.
The Pacers now shift focus to the Cleveland Cavaliers, who swept the Miami Heat in the first round. Game 1 of that series tips off May 4 in Cleveland.
“This group is tough,” said Pacers coach Rick Carlisle. “They never stop believing. And Tyrese — he’s a superstar now.”
Indiana, once seen as underdogs, are quickly emerging as one of the most dangerous teams in the East — and Haliburton is leading the charge.
